The Illinois Loop website is no longer updated on a a regular basis. However, since many of the links and articles have content and perspectives that are just as valid today, we are keeping this website online for parents, teachers and others researching school issues and solutions.
Broken links:If you encounter links that no longer lead to the desired article, it's still often possible to retrieve them. Most of the linked items include a sentence or more from the original. Copy a section of that text, and type it into Google surrounded by quotes. More often than not, Google will find the article at a revised location.

Choosing a School

Perhaps you feel that the "progressive" style of education (which, despite its name, has been around for many decades) is perfect for your child. If so, we certainly respect your choice for your own child, and send you best wishes. You will find many, many schools that will suit you.

But if you are looking for a school with academics at its heart and with lively, engrossing and effective research-based teaching methods, your search may be more challenging.

This section of the Illinois Loop website considers some suggestions on how to evaluate schools, and options that are available to you.

As a final touch, there is a page on how the decline of K-12 standards has affected college life and education.
